- We Have Rights Too! Project: Protecting the Sexual Reproductive Health Rights of Women Living with HIV and AIDS (October 2012-September 2014):
WOFAD is currently implementing this project in conjunction with the World University Service of Canada-Malawi and the Coalition of Women Living with HIV and AIDS (COWHLA) with financial support from the Tilitonse Fund. WOFAD is responsible for implementing this initiative in three Traditional Authorities (T/A) – Kuntaja, Kunthembwe and Machinjiri in Blantyre District. The main purpose of this project is to ensure that the SRHR of WLHIV are respected, protected and upheld. From December 2012-February 2013, WOFAD conducted a baseline survey to determine the current state of SRHR among WLHIV in the project’s target communities. The final report was presented at the Blantyre District Council February to key stakeholders from the community, NGOs, traditional leaders, government, media and those in the health sector. Over the next two years, WOFAD will be working to promote the SRHR of WLHIV and improve their access to quality SRH services. This will be achieved by training peer educators in the community on SRHR and advocacy, supplying peer educators with bicycles, conducting stepping stones workshops, training radiobroadcasters to deliver SRHR programming, printing and distributing Chichewa versions of laws and policies and engaging in advocacy efforts at the community, district and national level. Moreover, activities will be conducted to build the technical capacity of WOFAD staff to promote SRHR and be involved in advocacy efforts.
